WAVE Trauma Education have developed a variety of accredited training courses in the field of trauma, loss and growth. Courses are made available to all on a ‘first come first serve’ basis, with particular interest in front line workers and agencies impacted by trauma, vicarious trauma, developmental trauma and trauma and attachment.
In more recent years the range of courses on offer has been widened to include, ‘compassion fatigue’ and ‘vicarious trauma’ WAVE Trauma Education have created a learning pathway that is unique on the island of Ireland.

Our training pathway consists of five progressive strands
Strand One:
Community Education
Community Education Open Learning, Queen’s University Belfast accredited courses.
Strand One consists of community orientated trauma focused courses. The strand works from local to international research which is important in challenging insular views and acknowledging the wider world that we live in. All courses are accredited at degree level.
Courses include Psychological Trauma, Intergenerational Trauma, Self Care and Resiliency, Trauma and Addiction, Trauma and the Body, Trauma and Family Systems, Creative Story telling, Sympathetic presence, Trauma and Frontline Workers, Developmental Trauma, Betrayal Trauma and Trauma and Post Traumatic Growth.

Strand Two:
Undergraduate Studies
BSc Hons in Psychological Trauma Studies in partnership with the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Queen’s University Belfast.
Strand Two focuses on giving individuals the opportunity to gain a Degree qualification in Psychological Trauma Studies. This four year part-time programme seeks to deepen and widen the appreciation of the effects of psychological trauma. This degree programme is designed to meet the needs of those from community groups as well as healthcare professionals involved in the care and support of impacted individuals within our communities.

Strand Three:
Postgraduate Studies
Online Masters in Psychological Trauma Studies in partnership with University College, Cork.
Strand Three focuses on giving individuals the opportunity to gain a Master’s qualification in Psychological Trauma Studies. This online programme was developed to provide academically grounded but professionally informed education to relevant stakeholders.
This course focuses on both the individual and societal implications of trauma and draws on examples and experiences both locally and internationally.

Strand Four:
Citizen Education
Health and Wellbeing Engagement Specialist training in partnership with WAVE Citizen Trainers and Third Level Education.
Strand Four is unique in that it involves victims and survivors as citizen trainers delivering tutorials to help students better understand the long term effects of The Troubles on individuals, families and communities. It is our hope to extent this programme to include survivors of MBMLW. Understanding the context of what happened to people should lead to more effective care delivery to those most affected in the past.

Strand Five:
Bespoke Psycho- education
Bespoke Psychoeducation & Training.
Strand Five is workshop based trauma-focused education. These workshops are designed to meet the needs of those who want to learn more about trauma.
Workshops are delivered on themes such as addiction, PTSD, treatment of psychological trauma and traumatic grief and loss.
